November 29, 2001 — SAN ANTONIO, TX — Carmeda, which supplies the Carmeda BioActive Surface technology for medical devices is relocating to a larger, upgraded production facility near Stockholm.
The Carmeda production facility includes ISO Class 7 (Class 10,000) and ISO Class 8 (Class 100,000) cleanrooms. Carmeda is EN ISO 9001/EN 46001 certified.
The new facility comprises 30,000 square feet of office, laboratory and production space. The new facility is half-way between Stockholm’s city center and Arlanda airport. It is situated in InfraCity, a mixed use industrial, office and retail development, and is within the burgeoning high-tech corridor between Stockholm city center and Arlanda, which includes many R&D facilities serving the biomedical community.
“This new facility provides Carmeda a dramatic increase in laboratory and contract coating production capacity. This capacity growth is necessitated by our increase in CBAS licensing activities and by the device industry’s increasing reliance on outsourcing. As such, we are now positioned to offer both technology licensing and contract coating services for several years to come,” said Krister Ljungqvist, Carmeda’s president.
Since 1985 Carmeda has commercialized the “end-point attachment” of immobilized heparin molecules to medical device surfaces.
