M+W Zander wins contract for construction of Infineon development centre in Dresden

M+W Zander, subsidiary of the JENOPTIK AG technology group, has been given the contract for the construction of the new Infineon Technologies AG Memory Development Centre in Dresden. As the general contractor, M+W Zander is responsible for the design and construction of a new development centre in Dresden which will be built in the direct proximity of Infineon’s existing semi-conductor facility . The volume of the order for M+W Zander will be 74 million Euro.

A total of about 2,300 square metres of cleanroom area and an office complex for 900 employees will be built. Construction commenced in the middle of 2004. The building should be weather-tight by the end of this year (December 2004). In a first step, the seven-floor office building will be completed and handed over to the owner by March 2005. After a construction period of only ten months, the actual facility building with the research cleanroom and the associated support areas are then to be handed over to Infineon ‘ready for equipment’ by 14th April 2005. Together with partners, Infineon will develop innovative memory concepts and production processes on 300-millimetre wafers in particular for the production of chip generations of 70 nanometres and below.

Infineon Technologies is one of the most long-standing key accounts of M+W Zander. As general contractor, the Jenoptik subsidiary had designed and built both the Simec facility and the worldwide first 300-millimetre fab, SC 300. M+W Zander also constructed the Advanced Mask Center, a joint venture between Infineon, AMD and DuPont. “Together with Infineon, we invested in expertise for the 300-millimetre production technology and the related facility systems at an early stage . This is now paying off. Today we are among the market leaders worldwide in the design and built of research facilities for the 300mm technology”, says J
