NSF awards $500K to Polychromix

Oct. 18, 2004 – The National Science Foundation has awarded Polychromix Inc. (Profile, News, Web) a $500,000 grant to commercialize a new device for optical subsystems in telecommunications networks.

The Phase II Small Business Innovation Research award will go toward commercial development of Polychromix’s Interfractor and integrate it into its Dynamic Channel Orchestrator, which monitors and manages multiple wavelengths in optical networks. The Interfractor is designed to reduce an optical system’s insertion loss, or the power reduction caused by inserting components into a previously continuous path.
