Schott spending $72M for solar module expansion

March 28, 2006 – Schott plans to invest 60 million euros (about US $72 million) to build a new manufacturing facility in Jena, Germany, for thin-film solar electricity modules based on amorphous silicon.

The facility, scheduled to open in 3Q07, will have capacity exceeding 30MW/year, more than a smaller Schott thin-film site already operating in Putzbrunn, near Munich. Schott already has more than 100MW capacity across its entire operations.
