January 11, 2007 – Rambus Inc. and Spansion Inc. have agreed to a five-year royalty-based patent license deal giving Spansion access to various Rambus patents. Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed, though Rambus said revenues generated from the license would be nonmaterial.
The licenses will expand Spansion’s flash memory technologies for use in cellular phone applications, noted Robert Melendres, the company’s EVP and chief legal officer. “Rambus has a history of innovation in advanced interface designs, and some of those innovations are applicable to flash memory,” added Sharon Holt, Rambus SVP of worldwide sales, licensing, and marketing, in a statement.
Other Rambus technology licensees include AMD, Elpida, Fujitsu, Qimonda, Matsushita, NEC, Renesas, and Toshiba.
