The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST) has announced the publication of the first document produced by the International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee (ISO/TC) 142, Cleaning equipment for air and other gases. ISO/DIS 21220, Particulate air filters for general ventilation-Determination of the filtration performance, is available from IEST.
The draft standard describes testing procedures and the test rig for measuring performance of particulate air filters in general ventilation applications. It presents two test methods based on the initial efficiency of the filters and the conditioned efficiency of their media: the “fine method” for air filters in the higher efficiency range, and the “coarse method” for lower-efficiency filters. In addition, the standard contains annexes covering a test method for conditioning of filter material, pressure drop calculation and shedding from filters.
