SMIC says Shanghai 300mm line up & running

December 10, 2007 – Chinese flagship foundry SMIC says its Fab 8 300mm fab in Shanghai has commenced production. Construction began in October 2005; equipment move-in occurred in May of this year, with pilot production starting in July.

The foundry is currently building another 300mm fab in Wuhan (reportedly funded heavily by government investments). Existing capacities include three 200mm lines in its Shanghai fab, plus two 300mm lines in its Beijing fab, a 200mm fab in Tianjin, and an assembly/testing facility in Chengdu.
