ASE bounces back to pre-fire levels

09/08/2005  September 8, 2005 - Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. has bounced back nearly to levels before a fire struck its Chungli facilities in early May, causing an estimated $148 million in damages, according to the Taiwan Economic News. August revenues were $24 million, said spokesperson Joseph Tung, with packaging output at full capacity and test capacity right behind.

ASAT Appoints VP of Worldwide Customer Quality

09/08/2005  Hong Kong and Pleasanton, Calif. — ASAT Holdings Limited and ASAT Inc. has appointed Kenneth Sicz as VP of worldwide customer quality. Sicz will be located in Hong Kong and will report to Robert Gange, president and CEO. With more than 30 years of quality assurance, operations, and marketing experience in the semiconductor industry, Sicz most recently worked in director-level positions at ChipPAC, where he was in charge of worldwide procurement and quality and reliability assurance.

DuPont Fluoroproducts to build NF3 plant in China

09/08/2005  September 8, 2005 - DuPont Fluoroproducts plans to construct a new manufacturing facility in Changshu, Jiangsu Province, China, to produce nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), a key chamber cleaning and etch gas used in chip manufacturing and FPDs. The new plant will have 450 tonnes (504 tons)/year of initial capacity when production starts in 2007.

July's Global Semiconductor Sales Rise

09/07/2005  San Jose, Calif. — Worldwide sales of semiconductors rose to $18.01 billion in July, a 0.3% increase from the $17.96 billion reported in June, and a 0.03% decline from July 2004 sales of $18.02 billion, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reports.

SEMATECH receives key litho tool to develop advanced ICs

09/02/2005  September 2, 2005 - SEMATECH has received a key tool for exploring the extension of immersion lithography to produce advanced semiconductors at the 45 nm half-pitch lithography generation and beyond. The tool, an interference immersion exposure system from Amphibian Systems, will be placed in the Immersion Technology Center, which focuses on extending immersion lithography beyond pure water-based approaches.
