Sartorius Corp. has developed a disposable gelatin filter membrane for high volume sampling of low-bioburden environments. According to the company, gelatin filtration is superior to impaction, impingement, sedimentation and standard sampling methods. The disposable gelatin filters work by filtration, providing recovery of all airborne organisms. High flow rates are obtained by the gelatin filters, allowing for sampling of large volumes in short time periods (up to M2 in 8 min.) without desiccation of the captured organisms.
