Membrane filtration unit
The new SEPA CF lab-scale membrane filtration unit from Osmonics can be used in a variety of applications, including protein concentration and enzyme purification in the biotechnology industry, and organic concentration and chemical fractionation in the chemical processing and food industries. The SEPA CF consists of a test cell body and rigid holder. The cell body is available in acrylic, polypropylene or 316 stainless steel, and accommodates any 6- ¥ 8-in. (15- ¥ 20-cm) flat sheet membrane. Operating in a cross-flow filtration mode, the unit performs small-scale production runs and provides comprehensive scale-up data. It uses reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes for a myriad of separations. Pre-cut membranes are available from Osmonics, or mesh or tubular feed spacers can be loaded in the cell body with membrane and permeate carrier to simulate the actual flow characteristics of a wide variety of commercially available, spiral-wound membrane elements. The cell is capable of laminar and turbulent flow and operates at pressures up to 1,000 psig (69 bar). Membrane change-out takes less than one minute and requires no tools.
