New ESD Wrist Strap Test Standard

New ESD Wrist Strap Test Standard

By Lisa A. Karter

Bloomington, MN–The Electrostatic Discharge Association recently approved a new draft standard that establishes test methods for evaluating the electrical and mechanical characteristics of wrist straps. ESD-DS1.1, also known as, “Evaluation, Acceptance, and Functional Testing of Wrist Straps,” is the successor to the 1987 EOS/ESD S1.0. The new draft standard includes improved test methods and performance limits for evaluation, acceptance, and functional testing of wrist straps, which are often worn in the electronics manufacturing industry to control static discharge.

The draft standard was developed for review and approval by the Association`s Standards Committee and Board of Directors. Draft standards are subject to revision before being issued as full standards. n
