Using 68 kHz May Be Better Than 80 kHz
Trenton, NJ–A major OEM in Scotts Valley, CA has found the ultrasonic activity of Crest Ultrasonic`s 68 kHz to be five times greater than 80 kHz products. According to Crest, this is a “major breakthrough” in high frequency ultrasonics for cleaning applications in the disk drive and disk media industries. Crest has filed for a patent in connection with the discovery. Dr. Sami B. Awad, vice president of cleaning technology at Crest, expects the enhanced high frequency discovery to lead to a wide use of the 68 kHz ultrasonic frequency in the precision cleaning of sensitive substrates, including glass, soft and polished metals, hybrids and surface mounts, as well as disk drive parts.
According to Crest, at 68 kHz, there are almost double the implosions at 40 kHz. Also, by significantly increasing the watts per gallon, up to four times the amount of implosions can be created. Although the discovery can be applied to a wide range of high frequency ultrasonics cleaning challenges, Crest will use the technology to enhance 25 and 40 kHz frequencies performances. Test data indicates that the discovery will enhance all frequencies. n
