Hyundai Electronic America`s Maxmedia fab continues renovation
San Jose, CA–Two buildings belonging to Hyundai Electronic America`s MaxMedia Division are being renovated by San Francisco-based design/build firm McCarthy, which is acting as general contractor on the $40 million fabrication and office/laboratory project. Involved is the renovation of 133,385 ft2 of space in two newly acquired buildings, slated to proceed at a highly accelerated 10-month construction schedule. Building A will house a 71,456-ft2 computer disk fabrication facility and Class 10, 100, 1,000 and 10,000 cleanrooms. In Building B, 61,929 ft2 will be renovated to include offices, laboratories, a cafeteria and a plating line.
To meet the short timeline, the project is being completed in phases. “Following clean protocol procedures is standard for us, so we don`t expect any particular difficulties in that area,” said McCarthy Project Manager Jim Pruett. “However, the challenge will be in meeting the tight schedule,” he said. Designed by Keller & Gannon of San Francisco, construction on the complex began in August and is scheduled to be completed in June 1997.
