Fluor Daniel awarded contract by MedImmune, Inc.
Irvine, CA–Fluor Daniel won a contract exceeding $42 million for the design and construction of MedImmune`s new manufacturing facility in Frederick, MD.
MedImmune is a biotechnology company focused on developing and marketing products for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases and for use in transplantation medicine. It currently markets two products through its hospital-based sales force and has six new products in clinical trials. Fluor Daniel`s PharmBio & Chemicals operating company, headquartered in Marlton, NJ, is providing siting, project finance consulting, detailed design, procurement, construction, validation and start-up services for the facility. Construction began in October. Floor space will encompass about 68,100 ft2 and includes modules for production of antibody-based products, as well as facilities for filling and packaging, quality control, warehousing and manufacturing administration. An upper-level mechanical area will feature an additional 22,700 ft2. Mechanical construction is scheduled for completion during 1998, pending licensing by the FDA.
