Cleanroom flooring keeps lab animals safe
Elkins Park, PA
A cleanroom flooring supplier, Altro Floors, now provides flooring to ensure the safety of four-legged pedestrians. Over 350 yards of seamless safety flooring by Altro Floors is in place at the Freimann Science Life Building at the University of Notre Dame (South Bend, IN). A slip-resistant, sheet vinyl floor containing aluminum oxide grains and quartz crystals was selected to resist the potentially slippery conditions in the animal research lab. Says Robert Spence, manager of the facility, “The floors of our lab are always exposed to water. We have fish tanks and other equipment that create potentially slippery and hazardous conditions. We also have many species of animals, including hoof stock, that we need to bring into the lab without slipping and sliding.” Two grades of Altro flooring — Altro Stronghold 35 and Altro Designer 25 — are in place. Altro Stronghold 35 is designed for industrial areas subject to frequent spillage; while Altro Designer 25 provides a waterproof and hygienic continuous membrane for slip resistance and easy cleaning — also, an integral bacteriostat to inhibit the growth of gram positive and gram negative bacteria. — SES
