Sulfuric acid recycling program under way

Phoenix, AZ

The sulfuric acid produced by SGS-Thomson Microelectronics Fab 1 in Phoenix, AZ, is now being recycled as part of a recycling program initiated by Olin Microelectronic Materials. The program is called Rent-a-Chem, and as part of the program, Olin maintains ownership and full life-cycle responsibility for the chemicals it provides. Olin then finds alternative uses for the used chemicals, thereby eliminating negative impact on the environment. This alternative to chemical disposal offers cost savings to semiconductor companies, which use high volumes of sulfuric acid. — KS
