CleanRooms Asia `97 makes Singapore debut
Singapore–The first CleanRooms Asia `97 Conference and Exhibition takes place July 28-31, 1997, at the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Singapore. It will run simultaneously with DataStor Asia `97.
The CleanRooms Asia `97 Conference, a PennWell Publishing event sponsored by CleanRooms International and CleanRooms magazines, will address the distinct technological and practical application needs of the growing market in Southeast Asia. The conference kicks off Monday, July 28, with a half-day pre-conference workshop on “Cleanroom basics and protocol training,” which consists of a joint presentation by Howard Siegerman of The Texwipe Co. (Upper Saddle River, NJ) and Nigel Slater of Contamination Control Apparel (Bolton, England).
The conference program covers important topics including: next-generation cleanrooms; facility design; air management; materials performance; ultrapure technology; and monitoring/instrumentation.
Among the many technical sessions are: “Realizing contamination-free facilities and processes” presented by Dr. Tadahiro Ohmi of the Ultraclean Society of Japan; and “Advanced technologies for production facilities” presented by Johann Dorner of the Fraunhofer Institute of Germany.
Several presentations are geared toward facility design, including “Cleanroom programming and planning,” by Mark Smith of DPR Construction Co., (Redwood City, CA); “Maintaining a world class cleanroom,” by Joe Perez of Texas Instruments Philippines Inc.; “Retrofitting/upgrading facility operations” presented by Tim Loughran and Bob Wolf of Performance Contracting, Inc. (Phoenix, AZ); and “100 ways to improve cleanroom yield” by John Potter of CRE (Ronkonkoma, NY).
In the area of air management/filtration, discussions will focus on “Evaluating cleanroom filter technologies and requirements,” a presentation by George Martin of Vokes Filtration Technology (Guilford, England); “ULPA/HEPA filter testing concerning leak detection and certification” presented by John Turner of MSP Corp. (Longmont, CO), “Air ionization: theory and best practices” by Arnold Steinman of Ion Systems (Berkeley, CA), and “Further advances in HEPA and ULPA filtration media” presented by Jay Forcucci of Lydall Technical Papers (Rochester, NH).
In the materials area, Steve Clemens of Clean Room Garments Pte. Ltd. (Artarmon, Australia) will present a session on “Determining performance of clean room garments;” Steven Paley of Texwipe Co. (Upper Saddle River, NJ) will discuss “Evaluating cleanroom consumables,” and Rob Linke of Texwipe will evaluate “ESD safety vs. Contamination control.”
Some of the sessions will be geared toward molecular contamination issues including “Airborne molecular contamination,” by John Higley of Extraction Systems (Franklin, MA); “Ultrapure gas and gas delivery technology” presented by Dr. Sowmya Krishnan of the Ultra Clean Society (Menlo Park, CA); and “Flow-through sampler for high purity chemical process streams” by Tom Talasek of General Chemical Corp. (Pittsburgh, PA).
Other speakers are focusing on monitoring/instrumentation equipment, so attendees can look forward to sessions on “Monitoring clean manufacturing environments for productivity and quality” presented by Dr.-Ing. Holger T. Sommer of Team Engineering Inc. (Merlin, OR), and “Quantitative studies of particulate control in a practical environment” by Mark Dalziel of Dycem Ltd. (Bristol, England).
While CleanRooms Asia `97 and DataStor Asia `97 share exhibit space, there is a separate conference program for each.
The DataStor Asia `97 Conference program, sponsored by Data Storage magazine, provides a forum for sharing data storage product, process and production technology for the Singapore and Southeast Asian disk drive industry. DataStor will feature conference programs in the following subject areas: “Production, automation and test technology;” “Critical data storage components;” “Test service and support;” “Data storage manufacturing technology — into the drive: Contamination issues for today`s world;” and “Disk drive automation technology.”
Another part of the program is a special symposium geared toward semiconductor manufacturing technologies. The IC Fabrication Symposium Asia (IFSA) will take place July 29. It is sponsored by Solid State Technology magazine.
