DuPont expands its Welsh facility to service CMP market segment

To serve the emerging Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) market, as well as increased demand in the semiconductor wafer-polishing industry, DuPont has increased capacity at its colloidal silica plant in Wales by 30 percent. Startup is expected by year end 1997. A prototype CMP product is in the final development phase and is expected to be available for commercial testing also before year end, say company officials. — SES
