SGS-Thomson specifies Jenoptik Infab for SMIF/minienvironment at new French fab

SGS-Thomson, a producer of semiconductors worldwide, has selected Jenoptik Infab (Jena, Germany) to provide automation for its newest SMIF/minienvironment wafer fabrication facilities in Rousset, France. The Rousset facility is scheduled for full production of 0.35 micron and smaller circuits on 200 mm silicon wafers by the end of 1999. The order incorporates CIM system design, software integration, equipment integration, SMIF robots, advanced wafer lot tracking, and minienvironment technologies. Jenoptik Infab invented the ergonomic SMIF robot three years ago. The company was also responsible for automation and system integration of the Siemens 200 mm facilities in Newcastle, UK and Philips MOS4YOU in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. — SES
