Etus develops reagent to help detoxify wastewaters and sludges

Sanford, FL

Etus, Inc. has joined in the metal finishing industry`s efforts to reduce hazardous metals in process wastewaters and sludges. The company recently developed the dual-purpose reagent THIO-RED, which acts as both a precipitant and a detoxifier/stabilizer. As a precipitant, THIO-RED forms organo-metallic particles of extreme low solubility, resulting in the removal of nearly all metals from waste streams. It is effective over a wide pH range, and since the by-product is very dense, less sludge is generated. When THIO-RED is used for in-situ and ex-situ detoxification and stabilization of metals in sludges, soils, sediment, ash, etc., the organo-metallic complexes formed are insoluble and will not leach under acidic or alkaline conditions. ETUS is making THIO-RED available for bench-scale jar testing. For a free sample, call (407) 321-7910. — TGW
