Sanova food system approved for continuous processing trials

Redmond, WA

The Sanova Food Quality System from Novus International has been approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for multiple plant continuous on-line processing trials. USDA inspection officials are allowing trial participants to use the microbial control system to process poultry carcasses automatically on-line. Current protocol requires carcasses with visible fecal matter to be removed from processing lines and reprocessed manually, which industry sources say is time-consuming and costly. The Sanova system utilizes a bactericide developed by Alcide Corp. to kill E. coli, salmonella. listeria, campylobacter and other bacteria that can contaminate birds. Fresh, unused solution is applied via a proprietary application between the final bird wash and the chiller. The system incorporates process control technology and an automated inventory management system to monitor key control points in the operation, tracking historical data and alerting users to potential problems. According to the manufacturer, Sanova poses no threat to workers or the environment. — TGW
