Contec executive wins leadership award

Spartanburg, SC

Jack McBride, founder of Contec, a manufacturer of cleanroom wipers and cleaning systems for critical environments, has been named a Carolinas Region recipient in Ernst & Young`s 1998 Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Business Leadership in America. McBride is one of nine recipients named in various business categories in different regions.

Under McBride`s guidance, Contec has experienced a 30-percent growth rate each year since its establishment in 1988. The company attributes these increases to patented developments in several world markets, including semiconductor, electronics, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and the automotive and industrial surface prep markets.

According to official interviewer Charles Rabon, Jr., of Kilpatrick Stockton LLP (Charlotte, NC), Contec is an example of an American success story. “Jack has grown a start-up business into a market leader in a few short years, and the facilities he has put together, from front office to manufacturing, are what it takes in the cleanroom business to win and retain customers,” he says, after interviewing McBride and touring Contec`s facilities.

McBride is now eligible to participate in the national competition being held in Palm Springs in November. The award program is sponsored by Ernst & Young; USA Today; Nasdaq, the Entrepreneur of the Year Institute; and the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership. — TGW
