Fewer torr-ists found in Baltimore

Baltimore

Attendance at the 1998 American Vacuum Society (AVS) International Symposium in Baltimore was down from previous years. Attendance had risen for three straight years, with 1995-98 figures at 2,900, 3,000, 4,200, and 2,700, respectively. The numbers for 1997 were probably skewed, due to that year`s show being held in Silicon Valley; nearly 60 percent of 1997 attendees were from California. It also looks like the exhibits-only attendees numbered about 522, down sharply from the 1,100 in San Jose in 1997, but roughly in line with prior sessions. A reassuring sign was the continued sponsorship of the technical session on contamination-free manufacturing from Japan`s Ultra Clean Society. The AVS Manufacturing Science and Technology Group (MSTG) first invited the Japanese research society to participate in 1997. — WaferNews (V.5.47)
