Lumenon builds cleanroom to support commercial production

Lumenon Innovative Lightwave Technology Inc. (Dorval, Quebec) is building a cleanroom to support commercial production of its compact 8-channel dense wavelength division multiplexer (DWDM) chips on silicon.

Mark Andrews, chief technology officer and vice president of Lumenon, says the facility will comprise 1,500 square feet, broken into a Class 10 microenvironment for photolithography. Within the cleanroom, he says there will also be a photonic device packaging lab and materials clean-up area (Class 100 microenvironments in a Class 10,000 setting) and the usual gowning and vestibule areas.

Andrews says the cleanroom is attached to a chemistry development lab so that the photonic device area is arranged spatially to reflect the sequence of activities. The optical test and photonic materials labs will be online in March or April. Full certification is expected on or about mid-July. — TGW
