Takiron debuts fire-resistant PVC resin for cleanrooms

Takiron Co. (Tokyo, Japan) has introduced a polyvinyl-chloride (PVC) resin for use in cleanrooms that meets fire-resistance standards defined by Factory Mutual (FM), a U.S.-based organization that evaluates products and services related to property-loss prevention. The resin passed three FM tests for flammability, smoke generation and corrosive-gas resistance, while offering the same level of workability and chemical-resistance as conventional fire-resistant PVCs, according to Takiron. While the new material costs up to 2.5 times more than conventional PVCs, it is nearly 10 times cheaper than FM-approved fluorine-based resins, the company says. — SG
