Dataquest: DRAM success helped push worldwide semiconductor revenues to $160B

The success of the 1999 DRAM market was key to the semiconductor industry's revenue topping $160 billion, according to preliminary results of a Dataquest survey. The estimate for last year’s revenue indicates a growth of 18 percent, which agrees with the estimate of 17.3 percent released last week by the Semiconductor Industry Association.

Offering a less optimistic near-term forecast for the semiconductor industry, Advanced Forecasting, Inc., Cupertino, CA, said there's an 80% chance the IC sector is in for another down period soon.
