SIA reports semiconductor sales hit record level, reach $14.2B

The record was buoyed by the significant growth of Internet-related product sales, says Molly Marr, SIA's deputy director of communications. “Communications and Internet products, including modems, DSP, wireless, and other components” are behind the sales, she says. “Once the consumer PC was the [impetus], now it's the Internet,” Marr adds. The SIA reports flash memory 1999 year-to-date figures increased 74.2 percent, a figure driven primarily by wireless product sales.
