Acquisition — March 16, 2000 — Intel Pursues Optical Networking Market with Giga Acquisition.

SANTA CLARA, CA—Intel has invested in the future of optical networking with the purchase of Giga A/V for $1.25 billion. The acquisition of the Copenhagen, Denmark-based company, which posted revenues of about $25 million last year, gives Intel a line of communications chips that bridge voice and data communications and fiber optic cables.
