It was a pleasure to meet you…
Recently, I had the fortunate opportunity to meet with many Advanced Packaging magazine readers at a couple of industry trade shows. Among these readers, I found that there are many optimistic (and just downright cheerful!) people out there in the packaging industry – and I guess you can count myself among them. After going through a slump, I found attendees and exhibitors alike celebrating the industry's recent business growth, although some admittedly more enthusiastically than others.
The economic upswing that we are beginning to experience, in part driven by the demands on the communications side, has fueled great demands from the industry. Such demands also seem to be overwhelming many companies, as they are desperately juggling how to keep up with a multitude of orders and still deliver on time. For instance, one exhibitor told me that his company usually does about 20 percent of its annual business at the Nepcon West show each year; this year he accomplished that figure on the first day. At APEX, there were so many booths filled with attendees and buyers, that it was often difficult to see equipment demonstrations. We know booths are busy and business is flying when meetings need to be delayed; although this might sound a little backward for an editor to say, there is nothing better than to have to wait for a meeting because there's so much business going on in a booth.
Also to my delight, there was quite a bit of excitement generated by Advanced Packaging magazine, given its newfound support from PennWell Publishing. The overall response to AP magazine was a bit remarkable, and many readers had very thoughtful insights to relay, which I very much appreciate. We can't wait to apply some of your ideas to future issues of the magazine.
Many thanks to those who went out of their way to track us down at the shows with their comments and stories about what is happening in the industry. We look forward to sharing this enthusiasm on the pages of Advanced Packaging.
