NASHUA, NH—June 9, 2000—Sanders, a Lockheed Martin Company, announced it will allow another manufacturer of Monolithic Microwave ICs to use a 6-inch line at its foundry in order to operate the facility at full capacity. In what Sanders terms a cooperative support and technical assistance agreement, M/A-COM will manufacture Monolithic Microwave ICs (MMICs) on 6-inch gallium arsenide (GaAs) wafers for its telecommunications customers, sharing operations at Sanders’ Microelectronics Center in Nashua, NH.
Sanders makes MMICs for the aerospace and defense industry in its 13,000 ft2 cleanroom. The foundry contains microwave and millimeter wave devices operating from below 1 to above 100 GHz, which M/A-COM has agreed to use with only minimum modifications to support its processes.
M/A-COM officials say this agreement doubles its fab capacity and it is part of the company’s recent growth spurt. The Lowell, MA-based company expects to operate the MMIC manufacturing line at full capacity by June 2001. M/A-COM is a unit of Tyco International Ltd.
