TAOYUAN, TaiwanMay 31, 2000 Nanya Technology Corp. has placed a multiunit order for a memory yield improvement system from ESI, which will be deliver the product during the next eight months. Nanya officials say they will use the ESI systems to increase their production capacity of 64MB, 128MB and 256MB DRAM.
Electro Scientific Indusries Inc. of Portland, Ore. manufactures production and test equipment for surface mount ceramic capacitors, laser trim systems for electric tuning of circuits, laser and mechanical drilling systems for electronic interconnection and machine vision systems. The $7 million purchase is for the company?s Model 9350 memory yield improvement system.
The Model 9350 uses a 1.3 µm wavelength laser to provide a wide process window capability for the metal memory link materials used in advanced memory products. This high levels of energy removes metal links without damaging the surrounding silicon and results in cleaner link cuts with higher yields, according to ESI officials.
ESI’s sales for 1999 were $206 million, according to company officials.
