Applied Materials Beats Earnings Estimates

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—Aug. 9, 2000—Applied Materials, the world's largest supplier of equipment for the semiconductor industry, beat expectations when it reported earnings of $602 million or $0.70 per-diluted share for the fiscal third quarter of 2000, two cents higher than analysts had forecast.
