ASM International to begin volume production of 300mm furnaces

Bilthoven, The Netherlands–ASM Europe B.V., a subsidiary of ASM International N.V., has signed a lease contract for an assembly and test facility that will be used to produce 300mm vertical furnaces. When fully operational, the company reports that the new facility is expected to double its capacity.

“This new facility, located in the Dutch town of Almere, approximately 35 km from the main facility in Bilthoven, will allow us to significantly increase our output, while maintaining our high test and assembly standards,” says Dr. Han Westendorp, general manager of ASM Europe. “ASM recently qualified under ISO 9001, and this will help us to ensure that the new facility will meet the same high quality level.”

The new facility will be equipped with approximately 1,700-sq-meters of Class 10,000 cleanroom space for assembly and test, with a dedicated Class 1,000 area for shipment preparation and packing. Total investment cost is expected to amount to EUR 10 million (US$8.7 million).

Operations are scheduled to begin during 2Q of next year, with the new facility becoming fully operational by 4Q. ASM now is in the process of qualifying additional suppliers for the manufacturing of the mechanical and electrical components and modules to be assembled in its Bilthoven and Almere facilities.
