PUCHON, South Korea — Nov. 7, 2000 — Fairchild Semiconductor International this week opened a new wafer fab in South Korea to manufacture power semiconductors.
The new line, which features an ISO Class 3 (Class 1) cleanroom, is expected to compliment three existing wafer fabs at Fairchild’s Puchon site. The approximately $80 million investment will produce 17,00 ten-layer wafers per month during the first year.
“Fairchild Semiconductor is enjoying significant demand for its power device products, especially in China, Singapore and Taiwan,” said Kirk Pond, president, chairman and CEO of Fairchild. “The new wafer fab capacity forms an important part of the company's plan to increase our portfolio of higher-margin power and interface products, which now represent about 48 percent of our trade sales.”
The new line will manufacture power devices that include MOSFET and IGBT discrete products, standard IC, SPS and motor analog ICs targeted at worldwide customers.
