WICHITA, Kansas — Nov. 27, 2000 — Excel Corporation, a major supplier of beef and pork, plans to begin in-house testing of a new anti-microbial spray developed by Ecolab Inc.
The spray, Inspexx 200, is effective against pathogens like Salmonella typhimurium, Listeria monocytogenes, and E. coli 0157:H7, all of which could potentially contaminate the surface of a carcass. It is based on Ecolab’s advanced peroxyacid technology.
“Inspexx 200 is one of the most effective red meat carcass treatments available today and is used in at concentrations 100 times lower than other treatments on the market,” said Richard Higby, senior market manager for meat and poultry at Ecolab. “This means chemical usage, reduced discharge considerations and reduced risk to the worker environment.”
The two companies have penned an agreement under which Excel will evaluate Inspexx 200 for eight months at its processing plants. After that period, Inspexx will be available to the industry.
