Scottish Microelectronics Centre Opens Doors

EDINBURGH, Scotland — Nov. 2, 2000 — Edinburgh University has opened an $11.8 million facility designed to accommodate fledgling microelectronic companies.

The Scottish Microelectronics Centre contains 10 cleanrooms and offices, and is a joint project between the university and Scottish Enterprise. It is expected to provide on-site process development equipment for it tenants, the first of which – MicroEmissive Displays – is already in place.

Officials at the center have said the facility will create around 30 new jobs in the next year.
