Philips opens Design Competence Center in Shanghai

Shanghai, China–Philips Semiconductors, a division of Royal Philips Electronics, has established a Design Competence Center in Shanghai, China, to serve the needs of the rapidly growing Chinese market. The establishment of the Design Competence Center, follows Philips’ recently opened assembly and test facility in Guangdong.

The Design Competence Center will support the creation of new products tailored for the Chinese market and pave the way for further business development in the country, according to the company, by introducing systems and application specific ICs (ASICs) based on Chinese standards and customer requirements.

The initial focus of the center will be on developing technology for applications with a time horizon between 2 to 5 years, with particular emphasis on growth markets such as digital TV, wireless communication and identification.
