Mattson, STEAG and CFM Merger Completed

FREMONT, CA — Mattson Technology, STEAG Semiconductor and CFM Technologies have successfully completed a merger to form a company that now employs more than 1,800 people.

Mattson is a supplier of thermal, plasma and wet semiconductor processing equipment. The merger makes Mattson the 14th largest semiconductor manufacturing equipment supplier.

“The key to survival in the semiconductor equipment market is to become a leader in a number of product areas and achieve enough critical mass so that customers feel comfortable about the company’s ability to survive market downturns and technology changes,” said Brad Mattson, CEO of the company.

The addition of STEAG’s RTP product line puts Mattson in the second spot for RTP. Also, the combination of CFM and STEAG’s wet technology tools places Mattson in the top five wet processing equipment providers. Company officials say Mattson is now positioned to become a leader in the 300mm market.
