Medrad to Produce Syringes In China

INDIANOLA, PA — Looking to better serve the Asia-Pacific region, Medrad Inc. has penned an agreement to begin manufacturing disposable syringes in China.

The Schering AG subsidiary will collaborate with Hong Kong-based Vincent Medical Manufacturing Co. to produce the syringes in Guangdong, China. Production will begin this year. The syringes that will be made will be those used for power injections in angiography and computed tomography procedures.

“This will give us an opportunity to better serve our customers and eliminate our shipping costs to the Asia-Pacific,” said John P. Friel, president and CEO of Medrad.

Company officials also anticipate lower production costs as a result of the agreement, but said the quality of the syringes produced will “meet or exceed anything we’ve done in the U.S.” Once the Guangdong facility is operational, the Chinese-made products will not be made available in the U.S.
