Nanya, IBM extend DRAM technology agreement

Taoyuan, Taiwan–Nanya Technology Corp. has entered into a next-generation DRAM technology agreement with IBM Corp., in which IBM has granted Nanya a license to its 0.14- and 0.11-micron DRAM processes. This is an extension of a DRAM process technology licensing agreement signed by the two companies in 1998.

“This alliance is key to Nanya’s commitment to being a global DRAM supplier with state-of-the-art technology,” says Nanya President Ken Hurley. “IBM’s technology is recognized as being on the leading edge of all memory manufacturers. The combination of IBM’s technology and Nanya’s manufacturing strengths enable Nanya to establish a strong position in the world market for memory ICs.”

Early collaboration of engineers from both companies will speed implementation of these new technologies into an advanced manufacturing line and accelerate the commercialization of DRAM products. Nanya expects to begin using the 0.14-micron technology for commercial production in the fourth quarter of 2001, and 0.11-micron in early 2003.
