Tegal, Applied Materials sign patent license deal

Petaluma, California–Tegal Corp. announced today that it has granted to Applied Materials Inc. a nonexclusive license to U.S. Patent Nos. 4,464,223 and 4,579,618–covering dual-frequency etch technology–for an undisclosed amount.

“This agreement with Applied Materials is an example of how companies that compete in the high-technology arena can fin win-win solutions to intellectual property, and validates Tegal’s patented dual-frequency technologies in the marketplace,” says Michael L. Parodi, Tegal’s chairman, president, and chief executive officer. “Tegal is pleased with this field-of-use license agreement, and we continue to retain the rights to exploit our unique patents for the telecommunications and emerging film markets, which have been our focus in recent years.”
