FEB. 14 Tokyo, Japan–NEC Corp. and Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp. (NTT), both of Tokyo, have agreed to work together on basic research into quantum devices for future ultra-high-speed computers.
Researchers in NTT’s quantum physics group focus on extremely small semiconductor structures moving a single electron at at time, high-energy gap compound semiconductors, and ultrathin film physics.
The initial agreement runs for a year, through March 2002, but is expected to be extended for several more years.
