Applied Materials Texas Plant Reportedly Largest to Get ISO Certification

Austin, TX — April 2, 2001 — Applied Materials. Inc’s Austin facility has been awarded the International Standards Organization (ISO) 9002 certification for quality assurance, reportedly making it the largest semiconductor equipment manufacturing operation to receive certification.

The facility boasts 1.2 million square feet of dedicated manufacturing space.

ISO 9002 is an internationally recognized standard incorporating established, verifiable procedures that lead to high quality procedures and services.

“Our products are highly complex systems manufactured in cleanrooms, with thousands of components and parts. Each of these multi-million dollar systems typically is customized for an individual customer” said Raymond Leubner, vice president of Volume Manufacturing at the Austin Facility. “Receiving the ISO certification for an opertion of this size and complexity shows Applied Materials’ dedication to world-class manufacturing.”

To received certification, an independent audit firm must verify that an organization’s day to day business practices match its process documentation and meet or exceed ISO standards.
