Applied Materials to acquire Oramir

May 30, 2001 – Santa Clara, CA – Applied Materials, has signed an agreement to acquire Oramir Semiconductor Equipment Ltd., Yoqneam, Israel.

Oramir specializes in advanced laser cleaning technologies for semiconductor wafers. The acquisition, which involves an undisclosed cash amount, is pending approval by the Israeli government.

Oramir is expected to be integrated with Applied Materials’ Process Diagnotics and Control (PDC) Business Group, headquartered in Rehovot, Israel.

Oramir’s laser cleaning technology complements Applied Materials’ extensive portfolio of wafer inspection solutions that includes advanced defect detection, review and metrology systems.

“This agreement represents a strategic opportunity for the synergy between Applied Materials’ systems and extensive support team that can allow us to bring Oramir’s technology to customers in time for the emergence of high volume 300mm production fabs,” said Yoram Uziel, CEO of Oramir.
