DuPont closes Scotland photomask facility

May 4, 2001 – Hamilton, Scotland and Round Rock, TX – DuPont Photomasks Inc. (DPI) will close its photomask manufacturing facility in Hamilton, Scotland, relocating equipment to the company’s 10 other photomask production sites worldwide. This is expected to have no effect on customer deliveries, DPI said, and 36 employees will be affected by the shut down.

The facility is expected to close by May 31, 2001.

“Today, the total available market for photomasks in the UK is less than 10% of the total European region,” said DPI CEO Peter Kirlin. “As such, we have concluded that we can more cost effectively serve our customers in the European market from our three large facilities in France and Germany, thereby improving productivity and profitability.”

DPI expects to save approximately $2.5 million in annualized operating expenses beginning 1Q02.
