June 18, 2001 — FREMONT, CA — Abgenix. Inc. is setting up a new approximately 100,000 square foot biotech facility in an existing building in Fremont, California. The new location will feature more than 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space.
Clark, Richardson & Biskup Consulting Engineers Inc., of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Dowler-Gruman Architects of Mountain View, California, are designing the fit-out project.
The facility will be used to produce at least 1100 kilograms of bulk cell culture products each year, and will house fermentation and purification areas as well as a filling suite for clinical production vials.
Abgenix develops and plans to commercialize antibody therapeutic products for the treatment of disease conditions, including transplant-related diseases, inflammatory and autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease and cancer.
