June 29, 2001 — TAIPEI — Powerchip Semiconductor is reportedly ready to hike its initial monthly production capacity of its 12-inch wafer plant to 15,000, up from 10.000 wafers.
According to the Taiwan Economic News, the dynamic random access memory manufacturer will complete the building and cleanroom portion of the 12-inch wafer plant at the end of this year. Production equipment is expected to be installed during the first quarter of 2002, with commercial production slated for the third quarter.
The company plans to allocate more than $582 million to eventually expand the plant’s production capacity to 40,000 12-inch wafers a month.
