June 22, 2001 — KUCHING, Malaysia — Officials at the Sarawk Skills Development Center say they will open a new cleanroom equipped facility at the Sama Jaya free industrial zone.
Center Chairman Datuk Abdul Aziz Husain said the new facility will allow the center to continue to become one of the top skills-training provider in that area, according to a report in the Star (Malasyia). The center offers a number of training programs, including the business and technology higher national diploma (BTEC-HND), pre-employment, skills upgrading and career advancement programs.
According to Aziz, the BTEC-HND offers students an alternative route to gaining more skills. The center is the first in Sarawak and Sabah to offer the program. Graduate will be accepted by the University of Wolverhampton in England to do a degree course under a memorandum of understanding.
The center was set up in 1994, and currently has around 500 students taking courses.
