Vishay acquires Infineon’s IR components business

July 30, 2001 – Malvern, PA – Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has completed its acquisition of Infineon’s entire infrared components business for approximately $120 million. Under the terms of the agreement, Vishay will take over Infineon’s development, marketing, and distribution activities located in the San Jose, CA, headquarters, as well as a production facility in Krubong, Malaysia.

In FY00, Infineon’s IR components business had revenues of approximately $133 million.

“As a result of the acquisition of Infineon’s infrared components business, Vishay will add several new device types to its optoelectronics portfolio as well as becoming the largest supplier outside Japan of optocouplers and the largest supplier worldwide of infrared data communication transceivers,” stated Felix Zandman, chairman and CEO of Vishay.
