August 6, 2001 — REDLANDS, CA — Looking to escape the constraints of California’s electricity shortage, ITW-Richmond Technology plans to move production equipment, cleanroom operations and engineering services from its Redlands plant to an ITW facility in Houston, TX.
Officials say the move will allow the company to avoid being subject to California’s electricity constraints and potential power supply interruptions, which can easily drive up costs and drive down production. The move is not expected to interrupt service or product delivery.
“We get away from that uncertainty (of the electricity constraints),” said Ed Weggeland, vice president of marketing for Richmond. “And because there are other company facilities we are moving to, there are shared services.”
To facilitate the move, the company plans to expand the Texas plant’s cleanroom facilities by 3,000 square feet.
In addition to relocating its manufacturing and engineering services, Richmond’s sales, administration and customer service group with be moved to ITW-Electronic Packaging headquarters in Arlington, Texas by the end of the year.
